I have always loved the illustrations by Wesley Dennis in Marguerite Henry's book "Album of Horses". One of my favorites was a Percheron cantering with a ballerina balancing on his broad back. Inspired by that illustration, I began to research old images of circus horses also known as "rosin backs" and the brave and daring performers who made it all look easy. Today, the sport of vaulting continues this tradition. What impresses me the most is the absolute trust the rider must have in the horse.
