In summer of 2017, my sister and I drove together to Kentucky. We loved seeing pastures full of mares and foals. It was so much fun! I was reminded of the joy horses seem to have when rolling. I noticed that a few would quickly lift their heads and scratch their bellies on the ground before getting up. This piece was a quick sketch done with soft clay hoping to catch that moment in time.
